The same invite works in the Discord desktop app, mobile app, and browser. On phone, tap "Open in Discord" if prompted so you land in the correct account — browser-only sessions sometimes miss push notifications for patch posts.

After joining, set your Discord status to "Playing Tears of Metal" if you want LFG visibility. Steam integration auto-detects app 1913120 when the game is running.

First-time Discord users

Discord accounts are free. You need a verified email to join most developer servers. Pick a display name squads can recognize — "WallaceMain" beats "xX_DragonSlayer_Xx" when someone scrolls LFG history for a fourth player.

Mute server-wide @everyone pings after reading #rules. Paper Cult may ping for major EA patches; you do not need every meme thread notification.

Cross-check fresh links on the Steam store page, Paper Cult's YouTube channel, or this wiki page before trusting social reposts. Developer invites rarely change, but phishing clones appear after popular EA launches.

Faster than waiting for wiki updates

Early Access roguelikes change weekly. Discord is where players report whether Ruadh's hammer build still clears Act II elites, or if a new artifact invalidates yesterday's tier list. Use Discord for freshness; use this site for structured tables you can scan between runs.

Developer visibility

Paper Cult staff and moderators use the official server for announcements — not random subreddits. EA feedback on performance (large skirmish frame drops were noted in preview footage), co-op scaling, and emblem balance lands here first before Steam news posts.

Co-op culture without ranked toxicity

Tears of Metal has no PvP ladder. LFG posts focus on act progression, emblem family splits, and threat-level goals — not rank grinding. That makes the Discord friendlier for "we need a parry frontline for the Act II boss" requests than generic action-game servers.

Notification hygiene

Turn on alerts for announcement channels. Build-discussion and LFG rooms spike after each Paper Cult patch — mute them if you only care about balance changes affecting the artifacts tier list.

What to include in an LFG post

State platform (Steam or PC Game Pass), current act, threat level target, and roles needed. Example: "Steam · Act II · threat ≤5 · need frontline + emblem support · have Vanguard Tracker." Mention voice chat preference (Discord VC vs ping-only).

List which emblem families are already claimed. Duplicate Caithness stacks waste drops — co-op squads split clans before route commits on the overhead map.

Squad role shorthand

Frontline — holds captain aggro, parry-centric (often Wallace or Ruadh). Support — emblem buffs and battalion commands. Flank / elite hunter — Vanguard Tracker or mobile artifacts. Threat caller — reads the threat bar and veto's risky branches. One person should own that job even in casual LFG groups.

Platform matching

Etiquette that gets re-invites

Show up with hub upgrades roughly matched to the group — nothing kills LFG trust like joining Act II with zero village upgrades. Revive downed allies before looting emblem drops. Do not abandon mid-run without saying so; roguelike routes are shared and a disconnect hurts the whole map.

Open the Steam store page in another tab. Paper Cult links discord.gg/papercult from official community posts. If a Discord invite contradicts the store page, do not join.

Ask better questions
